Next to Mount Fuji in Japan

Proximar Seafood is building its first fish farm based on land next to Mount Fuji in Japan. Constructions started in 2021 and both walls and ceilings are already in place.

Further, the Bergen-based company plans to put eggs into the hatchery during the third quarter of this year. Firstly, Benchmark Genetics will deliver the roe. Finally, the first harvest of fish is expected in the summer of 2024.

According to Proximar’s presentation, the followed harvest feeding of around five kilos will take another 12 months. AquaMaof, Israeli technology supplier, has developed the plant. Productions expectations are 5,300 tonnes of salmon annually.
