In the framework of World Oceans Day
Nueva Pescanova Group has launched new packaging made from plastic waste that has been collected on beaches and coastal areas. World Oceans Day is the perfect reason to make this announcement. These plastics, recycled and transformed, maintain the same properties and quality as virgin plastics.
Thereby, the Group has become the first Spanish food company that to manage to use this type of sustainable packaging, preventing approximately 10 tons of plastic from reaching the sea.
According to a press release, most of the plastics are large fragments without breaking. If not, this could cause critical damage to the marine environment and its species.
Besides, thanks to the partnership with SABIC and Polivouga the packaging of Caprichos a la Romana and Varitas de Merluza have a second life. Finally, the material and recycling process are certified by ISCC PLUS, Pescanova confirmed.
Furthermore, Nueva Pescanova Group adhered to United Nations Sustainable Ocean Principles. Therefore, the company guarantees responsible practices with the oceans in the four continents in which it operates. Regarding plastic wrappers, it plans to ensure that 100% of its packaging is recyclable by 2025.
Moreover, just two days ago, the group presented the first range of surimi made from Norwegian salmon.
