Benchmark Genetics has announced that it is strengthening its technical leadership team through organizational changes aimed at passing on strategic responsibilities to new generations of leaders. The company aims to strengthen its position in developing market-leading and genetically improved strains, as well as expanding its global genetic services.
Taking over and new role
Dr. Ross Houston will take over Dr. Rye’s role as Director of Genetics and will be primarily responsible for internal breeding programs and product development, while retaining his leadership position in research and development (R&D) for the company.
Dr. Morten Rye has taken on a new senior role as Director of External Services and Global Strategies, which will expand Benchmark Genetics’ delivery of genetic services to the global aquaculture industry. The company will offer genomic tools and analyses, becoming a complete provider of genetic services.
Expansion of expertise and capacity The genetics team has been reorganized under the new leadership, and each of Benchmark’s five internal breeding programs for Atlantic salmon, shrimp, and tilapia, as well as key personnel in technical support and R&D teams, have been assigned overall management responsibility. This includes molecular genetics, reproductive technologies, and development of genetic traits. The new structure will optimize synergies across breeding programs and innovate the implementation of the latest technologies.
